Executive Vice President, Finance, Accounting and Global Tax, Sony Corporation of America
Karen L. Halby is Executive Vice President, Finance, Accounting and Global Tax for Sony Corporation of America (SCA) and Corporate Executive Senior Vice President for Sony Corporation.
In her U.S. role, she oversees the SCA Finance and Accounting Department along with additional management responsibilities. In her global role for Sony Corporation, she is responsible for worldwide taxes for Sony, overseeing all tax matters for the Company and its various divisions around the world. The Sony Global Tax organization has over 90 professionals worldwide with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Singapore and London.
Karen joined Sony in 2000 as Senior Vice President of SCA Tax and in 2001 was promoted to Senior Vice President, Head of Global Tax Office and was tasked with forming Sony’s first centralized tax department, reporting to the Sony Group CFO. With her global tax expertise and active participation in international tax societies, Karen is recognized as a smart, energetic, and supportive leader, and she has been a strong and enthusiastic contributor to SCA’s leadership team going back many years. She was promoted to Sony Corporation of America Executive Vice President, Finance, Accounting and Global Tax in January 2020 and to Corporate Executive Senior Vice President of Sony Corporation in June 2020.
Karen started her career at Sullivan & Cromwell and Latham & Watkins before moving to corporate tax roles at PepsiCo, Coty and then Sony. Karen holds an A.B. cum laude in Mathematics from University of Michigan and a J.D. magna cum laude from Cornell University Law School, where she was editor of the Cornell Law Review.
Karen is an avid equestrian and lives in New York with her husband and their horse.
